Key information about euros

The Euro is commonly represented by its currency code (EUR) and in its symbol form (鈧). It was launched as an official currency on 1 January 1999, and coins and banknotes started to be released from 1 January 2002.

You'll need to have euros on hand if you're travelling to one of the many countries in Europe which use the euro as legal tender.

Which countries accept euros?

In total, 20 out of 27 EU member countries who have adopted the euro as their official currency, including Croatia, France, Greece, and Spain.

Euro denominations

The most commonly used notes in euros are the 鈧5, 鈧10, 鈧20, 鈧50, and 鈧100 bills. There are also 鈧200 and 鈧500 notes but these are not as often because of their high value.
